ABOUT GALAPAGOS

What makes the Galapagos Islands such a unique tourism destination?

The Galápagos Islands are one of the world’s most extraordinary travel destinations. Located about 1,000 km off the coast of Ecuador, this volcanic archipelago is home to wildlife found nowhere else on earth. Giant tortoises, marine iguanas, and blue-footed boobies live side by side in an environment where animals show little fear of humans. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Galápagos offer travelers the rare chance to step into a living laboratory of evolution—where Charles Darwin once drew inspiration for his groundbreaking theory of natural selection.

What to SEE & DO?

The Galápagos archipelago is made up of 13 larger islands and more than 100 smaller islets, with only four inhabited islands welcoming visitors. Santa Cruz and San Cristóbal serve as the main gateways, each with a national airport and lively port towns that connect travelers to the other inhabited islands by ferry.

While you can only stay on the populated islands, each one offers a rich mix of experiences. Picture yourself strolling along untouched white-sand beaches, snorkeling through turquoise waters beside playful sea lions, or gliding silently in a kayak past mangroves where sea turtles surface for air. On land, you can cycle along coastal trails, hike across volcanic landscapes, dive into the vibrant underwater world, or visit science centers that bring conservation efforts to life. Evenings invite you to sample fresh seafood in charming local restaurants before watching the stars shine over the Pacific.

For the truly remote experience, day tours and cruises grant access to the uninhabited islands—each with its own unique landscapes and wildlife encounters. Here, every journey feels like a private discovery of nature at its purest.

Do keep in mind that all activities are carefully regulated by the Galápagos National Park to protect this fragile ecosystem. Travelers are asked to follow the rules at all times, ensuring the islands remain pristine for generations to come.

What is the BEST TIME TO TRAVEL?

The Galápagos are a destination without a wrong season—only shifting moods of nature that shape your experience. Each part of the year offers its own treasures, so your journey will be unique no matter when you arrive.

From December to May, the islands come alive in vibrant color. Warm seas and calmer waters make it the perfect time for snorkeling and kayaking, while seasonal rains turn the highlands lush and green. Wildlife displays are spectacular—sea turtles nest on sandy shores, and the famous blue-footed boobies perform their whimsical courtship dances.

From June to November, the cooler Humboldt Current brings nutrient-rich waters that attract an incredible abundance of marine life. Divers and snorkelers can encounter hammerhead sharks, rays, and schools of fish swirling in the deep. On land, seabirds soar in breezy skies, and the landscapes reveal their stark volcanic beauty.

No matter the season, the Galápagos promise intimate wildlife encounters, breathtaking scenery, and a sense of discovery unlike anywhere else on Earth. The best time to travel is simply when you are ready to step into this living paradise.
