Plaza Island is situated in the east of Santa Cruz and actually comprises two smaller islands. You will go on a bus ride (approximately 40 min) to the Itabaca Canal in the morning, where you will board a comfortable boat that is designed for day tours. After approximately 50 minutes of navigation you will have a dry landing on the colourful island of South Plazas. Your guide will take you on a trail through the big opuntia Cactus forest which is home to a huge population of land iguanas feeding on the flowers of the Opuntia Cactus. If you are lucky, you can find a rare hybrid iguana which is land as well as marine iguana in one. On the bay of South Plaza you will find a colony of sea lions hanging and playing around. Along the cliffs you will observe many sea birds, such as swallow-tailed gulls, red-pilled tropic birds, frigate birds and more. Back on board you will be served lunch and continue the navigation for your snorkeling activity at Punta Carrion. From there you will go back to the Itabaca Canal and finally reach Puerto Ayora by bus.
