Floreana is the smallest inhabited island of the archipelago and has about 120 inhabitants. However, it is one of the best known for its history. The first inhabitant of this island was Patrick Watkins. He lived here for about two years and grew fruit trees and vegetables, which he traded with the whaling ships. He used to read the mail that the crews of the English ships left in the bay, which for this reason was called “post office”. The correspondence left in this bay was returned to its addressee by other ships that passed by the island. Several families made numerous attempts to settle in Floreana, but only the Wittmers succeeded, although their history is also linked to disappearances and murders. On your tour you will visit several places on this island: the plateau, the pirate cave and “La Lobería”, where you can snorkel. Here you can see white tip reef sharks, rays of all kinds, reef fish, sea turtles and sometimes even hammerhead sharks.
