Tips
The Sierra Negra volcano is 1124m above sea level and has the second longest crater in the world. It has a diameter of approx. 9.5km and a depth of approx. 90m, making it one of the most spectacular sights on the Galapagos Islands. The 16km hike takes about 3 hours. The hike is on a moderately difficult path with a slight incline. The walk continues to Elizabeth Bay. As you get closer, you can feel the ground heating up as it is a very hot and humid area. We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes, a waterproof poncho, jacket, sunscreen, water bottle, sun hat and keep all electronic devices in a rain cover in case of rain. After returning from the hike the afternoon is at your disposal.
IMPORTANT NOTE: In order to participate in this tour, you must be on the island of Isabela (Puerto Villamil) one day before departure. Due to the increasing volcanic activity of the Sierra Negra volcano on the island of Isabela, certain areas of the Sierra Negra volcano have been closed to tourist visits. Therefore, the routes may change slightly.
